Printmaking Etching Project

there is no “old you” to return to

Material – aluminum plate transferred to paper

For this project we were to reflect on a quote, essentially asking the question “if this is the last work of art you’ll ever make, why make this?” What makes this piece so important to create, what am I trying to say by choosing this subject?

I chose to replicate my childhood bedroom, as I would much rather retreat to a time where I was in a youthful state of innocence rather than dwelling on the inevitability of death.

Choosing this as my subject with the title selected is a reminder that while I can think and reminisce about it, the past and what was there and who I used to be, that no longer exists. It forces me to look ahead and not lose myself in what was and focus on what is and what could be. Making those decisions and moments in my life count and hold a greater significance.
